St James’s Place sponsors award for leading trainer at first ever Barbury International point-to-point
St James's Place Wealth Management is to sponsor an award for the leading Trainer at the inaugural Barbury International Point-to-Point at the Barbury Castle Racecourse on January 14.
The FTSE 100 company has been the long term lead sponsor of Barbury's international eventing competitions and supports racing's amateur division through its sponsorship of the Cheltenham Foxhunter Steeplechase at the Festival.
This new award will be presented to the trainer with the best record across the seven races of the meeting, with placed horses taken into consideration in the event of a tie.
“We’re delighted to see a major local employer getting involved at Barbury Races, and especially at this prestigious and unique event for our division of the sport,” commented the meeting's committee chairman Nigel Bunter. “St James’s Place has been title sponsor to the International Horse Trials at Barbury for many years, but their enthusiasm also extends to racing, and we couldn’t be more pleased to help them nourish the grass roots of the sport.”
Dave Sutton, for St James’s Place, added: "We have many clients in the racing and eventing worlds. Racing in particular allows us plenty of opportunity to mix with those customers, win their trust and build a rapport for the future. When this project was brought before us, we jumped at the chance to get involved at a venue we know well already.”
Ticket sales for this year’s event are already brisk and there’s considerable appetite to bring horses from all over the UK and from Ireland to compete for the seriously increased prize money.
One of the organisers told Marlborough.News: "The UK’s first ever International Point-to-Point has set people talking, and promises to provide a new dimension to a much-loved calendar of events."
